About Laura

Laura Melton Tucker

Laura Melton Tucker is a mediator certified through the Iowa Association of Mediators (IAM) and a member of the Association of Conflict Resolution (ACR).  She is a Court Roster Family Mediator in four Iowa counties and a Small Claims Mediator for the Johnson County Small Claims Court.  She serves on the board of Mediation Services of Eastern Iowa (MSEI), a non-profit organization.

Laura brings a wide range of skills and experiences to her mediation practice. She graduated magna cum laude from UCLA with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. She is a member of Phi Beta Kappa. She earned a Master’s in Education at Stanford University, where she also received her single subject English teaching credential.

Laura has taught writing, literature and journalism at the high school level. She has freelanced as a technical writer, including test item writing for the ACT college placement tests.  She also served as a Family Circle Facilitator for the Iowa City Housing Authority in a program designed to empower families who risk losing their housing by giving them a voice in the decision making process.

In addition to raising four sons, she and her husband of 35 years have run a successful Iowa City based business. Laura has been an active school volunteer, including working with children who bully or are victims of bullying.  As a docent at the  University of  Iowa Museum of Art, Laura gave art talks to adults and school aged children.  Laura served as President of Old Capitol Toastmasters in Iowa City, 2010-2011.  Iowa City has been Laura’s home since 1990.
